Important Referral Reminder
It is a Medicare/Medicaid requirement that all diagnostic procedures performed must be specifically ordered in writing by a physician who treats the patient. We are also now finding that many other insurance companies are expecting that patients will have a written order for all MRI testing. Please remember to note that the patient was referred for a MRI scan in your office documents and give the patient a written order as well. If more convenient please fax the order prior to your patient's exam. Our fax number is (781) 279-0869.
Also please note that some insurers, including Harvard/Pilgrim and CIGNA/Healthsource, mandate that we must have a pre-certification number prior to our making your patient's appointment.
Advantages for Referring Physicians
Convenient Appointment Times: Please call 781-279-2213.
Turnaround Time for Results: Studies are read promptly by full time on-site radiologist with reports available within 24 hours. Stat reporting of results will be FAXED to the referring physician's office.
Physician Consultations: A board certified radiologist is available Monday through Friday for telephone consultations regarding MRI needs and applicability.
Scheduling an Appointment
Please call (781) 279-2213 to schedule your patient's appointments.
OR for your convenience:
Fax your patients MRI written orders to (781) 279-0869, but please note on the orders if we are to call your patient to schedule their appointment, or if the patient will be calling the CHEM Center to schedule their own appointment.
Most exams do not require any patient preparation except for MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography) which requires your patient to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight, except for prescribed medications.
Most patients with joint replacements or other orthopedic hardware do not present a problem and still can be scanned, but because MRI uses powerful Magnetic Fields, some patients may be excluded from having a MRI.
If any of the following conditions exist please notify the CHEM Center for MRI before your patient's exam.
- Cardiac Pacemaker
- Cerebral Aneurysm Clips
- Cochlear Implants
- Implanted Insulin or Chemotherapy Pumps
- Implanted Neuro-Stimulator Devices
- Heart Valve Replacements
- Other Prosthetic Devices
- Metal Fragments in Eye
