Designated as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the staff at Lawrence Memorial Hospital is dedicated to providing you with the clinical expertise and patient-focused care you deserve.
With this special designation, Lawrence Memorial Hospital joins an elite group of hospitals in Massachusetts that have been classified as ASBS Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence. After submitting an application for consideration and a stringent review process by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), it was determined that Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s bariatric program satisfactorily met the standards set forth to be designated as an ASBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. In the United States, there are fewer than 250 hospitals designated as ASBS Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence. The Director of Bariatric Surgery Program, Dr. Sheldon Randall, has earned the Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence designation.
The program at Lawrence Memorial Hospital is a comprehensive bariatric program that includes all modalities.
Weight loss surgery has emerged as a safe and effective method for the long-term treatment of patients with clinically severe obesity. Deciding to have weight loss surgery is a significant step that requires a permanent lifestyle change. Lawrence Memorial and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital's Weight Management Program offers the very best in surgical options, treatment, care and support. Through our center of excellence, patients are offered two options for weight loss surgery: traditional Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass and the Lap-Band procedure.

- 65 percent no longer require blood pressure medication.
- Sleep apnea is cured for most.
- Joint replacement is possible when it previously was prohibited by excess weight.
