Galactography/Ductography

Galactography (Ductography) is an outpatient examination of the milk ducts to help evaluate certain types of nipple discharge.
During this procedure, a tiny amount of fluid is obtained by applying pressure on the nipple in order to identify the correct duct.
The duct is cannulated, a small amount of contrast medium is injected, and mammography is performed. The contrast medium makes the duct visible on the mammogram to aid in visualization.
This procedure takes approximately 45 minutes.
