Our Approach
The Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation programs consist of three distinct phases. Phase 1 begins while you are in the hospital. Phases 2 and 3 take place following your discharge from the hospital. Your cardiac physician and our program directors closely monitors your care throughout all phases of the program.
Phase 1: In The Hospital
While in the hospital, you begin physical therapy as needed and begin education on cardiac disease.
Phase 2: Monitored Exercise and Education Classes
You will join a group of other patients to exercise while supervised by a cardiac nurse and exercise physiologist or physical therapist. A telemetry unit monitors your heart's performance during exercise. You will also attend group education classes covering a variety of cardiac care topics.
Phase 3: Supervised Maintenance Exercise Group
For our patients remaining at risk following completion of Phase 2, we offer continued supervised group exercise sessions 1 to 3 times per week. Once you have achieved a level of cardiovascular conditioning that will allow you to exercise independently, you are discharged from Phase 3.
