After teaching research courses to student nurses at Regis College for a number of years, and implementing evidence-based research in her own clinical work, Barbara was invited to join the Hallmark family as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer for Research and Evidence- based practice.
Barbara has worked in the health care field for over thirty years. In addition to being an active clinician, educator, and researcher, she is award-winning film producer, journalist, corporate positioning/messaging facilitator, media trainer and motivational speaker.
Dr. Wallace received her doctorate in human development and psychology, with a sub-specialty in interactive technology, from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In addition, Dr. Wallace holds a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. She graduated cum laude from Boston College and was one of the first six nurses in the country to graduate from the Boston College-Harvard Medical School Program for clinical nurse specialists/nurse practitioners.
As the Special Assistant to the Director at the Center for Health Communication, Harvard School of Public Health, and, as the Executive Director of Nurses of America (a national multi-media campaign, to educate the public about contemporary nursing and nursing practice), Dr. Wallace perfected her skills in working with journalists, researchers and the media.
In 1992, Dr. Wallace traveled to Armenia and Russia to upgrade health care practices, develop standards of care and provide collaborative educational seminars for physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team
In 1987, after 20 years as a broadcast journalist for the ABC network, the Family Channel and as co-host with Dr. Timothy Johnson on the nationally syndicated television program, Healthbeat Magazine, Dr. Wallace formed Wallace Associates, an independent health, media and corporate communications consulting company. Dr. Wallace has worked with individuals representing national and global biotechnology and health care companies. She continues to offer these services in addition to her work at Hallmark Health.
