Breastfeeding is a natural way for you to nourish your baby. To help make nursing successful, we offer a lactation program to support and encourage you in the early days after birth. Our program is provided by certified lactation consultants – highly specialized health care professionals – who offer individualized consultation to assess you and your baby’s feeding style and assist with education and problem-solving. Alternative therapy has become increasingly popular in the U.S. and now pregnant women are finding it helpful as well. Therapies such as massage, infant massage, shiatsu, Reiki and foot reflexology have all been found to be beneficial in many ways —both during and after pregnancy. Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, in cooperation with the Huggins Center for Alternative Therapies, offers a variety of alternative therapy services in your labor or postpartum room to complement the medical care you receive from your health care provider.
There are a number of effective pain management options available to help you deliver your child with as much comfort as possible. It’s important that you talk with your physician or midwife about your options and expectations prior to your admission to the hospital.
Whichever method of pain relief you choose, our expert team of anesthesiologists, available 24 hours a day, will work with you and your labor team to determine the most appropriate comfort measures for your particular labor and delivery experience.
