There are several options to get involved with this years Stride for Health walk including donations, registering to walk, or becoming a corporate sponsor. Don't worry if you are unable to make it we also have the option to become a virtual walker.

Proceeds from the Stride for Health will provide CPR training and choke-saving skills to 10th and 11th grade students in communities north of Boston.  It will also be used to purchase lifesaving Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for area youth hockey teams and athletic facilities.  Funds will also go towards the purchase of a new Hallmark Health System Mobile Van to provide local communities with valuable on-site health screening and programs. The van will also be equipped to provide baseline testing for sports concussions at local rinks, ball parks, fields and athletic sites throughout the year.

Participant Information

The Dr. Bob Harney 2012 Stride for Health Event will be held on Saturday, August 18 at Revere Beach. Come Walk, Run or Roll to help Hallmark Health System raise over $125,000 for the Cardiology, Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Programs. Registration is $20.00 for the event and pledges are accepted. Registration tents will be set up behind the State Police Barracks on Revere Beach Boulevard. Registration starts at 7:30 AM and the event will begin at 9:00 AM. The 5k event will be held “Rain or Shine”.

This year’s event is a collaborative effort between Hallmark Health System and the Boston Bruins Foundation. If you register and participate in the event you will have a chance to meet Shawn Thornton of the Boston Bruins and Mike Eruzione Captain of the 1980 Gold Medal US Olympic Hockey Team. You will also get a tee shirt at the event.

“Dr. Bob”, as he was lovingly known, had been a well-respected orthopedic surgeon for over 25 years.  As a private physician, he was anything but private.  He committed his time and considerable energy to helping his patients as celebrated individuals, making house calls in the worst of snowstorms and changing arm casts just to match the color of a prom dress.  He dedicated his career to the education and welfare of able-bodied, yet physically and intellectually challenged athletes. Colleagues found his commitment to patient care unwavering and his ability to teach, mentor and lead unsurpassed.  Patients found confidence and trust in his friendly and calm demeanor. Dr. Harney would light up the room with his smile. Unfortunately, Dr. Harney recently lost his fight against cancer but his dreams live on.
