- Sclerotherapy: This is a non-surgical procedure that is done at our Center. The spider veins are injected with a solution, using small needles, which causes them to clot and eventually disappear. A few sessions may be required to obtain maximum benefit. During sclerotherapy, the affected leg is elevated to drain blood, and the sclerosant is injected into the spider veins. The procedure normally takes 5 to 30 minutes, depending on how many spider veins are treated.
- Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy is used to treat more significant vein problems. Ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy identifies and targets the affected veins. Under direct ultrasound visualization, a sclerosant is injected into the abnormal vein. This closes off the vein, resulting in relief of symptoms.
