CPOE is one of the technologies associated with Hallmark Health’s Safe Medication Administration and Recording through Technology (SMART) project. By doing away with illegible orders and providing important checks at the time of ordering, Hallmark Health is improving safety and quality of patient care in the area of medication administration.
“Medication errors are a significantly high proportion of medical errors and studies have show that many are preventable,” said Daniel Witkowski, MD. “CPOE is the single most powerful invention to date for improving medication safety.”
Clinicians throughout Hallmark Health have received training on CPOE and are using the new software at both hospitals. A multi-disciplinary staff, including the Information Systems staff, is offering training, encouragement, assistance and solutions as this new technology is deployed to improve patient safety.
