Hallmark Health System (HHS), which includes Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford, is pleased to announce that James Herrington of Melrose has been named chairman of the HHS Board of Trustees.
Herrington, who joined the board in 2008, served on the Hallmark Health Physician Hospital Organization and chaired the system's Board Quality and Risk Management committee as well as the Audit and Compliance committee.
Herrington spent more than 30 years as an executive, largely in sales and marketing, directly, or in support of, the health insurance industry. His extensive experience gives him unique perspective of health care’s operating and strategic environment. Herrington succeeds Donna West who served as chairman for four years.
Herrington will lead the board as HHS approaches its proposed plans for an affiliation with Partners HealthCare. The two health care organizations completed a major step in the process recently by filing necessary paperwork with the state and federal government to bring them another step closer to joining forces. The proposal must undergo a regulatory review process at both the state and federal level, which will likely take several months.
“It is an exciting time for Hallmark Health System and our communities as we look forward and plan for the kind of robust health care services required to meet the needs of our patients and communities for generations to come,” said Herrington.
