Dec. 31, 2013 – Approximately 1,000 babies are born at Hallmark Health System’s Melrose-Wakefield Hospital (MWH) each year. Parents carefully select names for their sons and daughters, some are family names while others are unique or trendy, but still some are more popular than others.
At MWH, the most popular girls name was Ava while Anthony topped the list for the boys in 2013. Coming in second and third were Sophia and Gianna for the girls. Joseph came in second for the boys and there was a four-way tie between Dominic, Liam, Matthew and Michael for the third slot. This was a change over 2012 when Ava was the fourth most popular name and Anthony didn’t even make the top 10. Here is the full list of the top 10 most popular baby names at MWH for 2013:
Girls: Ava, Sophia, Gianna, Emma, Chloe, Alexandra, Isabella, Abigail, Brooke and Grace.
Boys: Anthony, Joseph, Dominic, Liam, Matthew, Michael, Cameron, Jackson, John and Nicholas.
The local names mirrored that of the top 100 names found on parenting website babycenter.com, but differed in their degree of popularity. The website had Sophia and Jackson on top followed by Emma and Olivia and Aiden and Liam in the second and third slots.
For more than 100 years, MWH has offered the region the very best in maternal and newborn services including a Level II Special Care Nursery, which provides a higher level of intensive care for babies having medical problems at birth. During a patients stay in the mother-baby unit, our expert team of physicians, nurses, lactation consultants, social workers and others work closely with the new mom and her family to ensure that she is off to the best possible start in her journey as a new parent. From labor and delivery to the day of discharge and beyond, the staff at maternal and newborn services provides for mothers physical and emotional needs and helps them develop the skills necessary to care for their newborn.
MWH is a Baby-Friendly® birth facility, a prestigious internal recognition from Baby-Friendly® USA, which encourages and recognizes hospitals that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
