Oct. 21, 2010- Hallmark Health System, which includes Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, is pleased to announce Leanne Lee, MD has joined the organization’s employed physician’s group, Hallmark Health Medial Associates, Inc.

Oct. 13, 2010- Hallmark Health System’s Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford is pleased to announce that Andras Sandor, MD, Chief of the Department of Surgery, has been named a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence (BSCOE) Designee from the Surgical Review Corporation, in collaboration with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The designation is awarded in recognition of optimal performance levels, despite the fact that many obese patients present sharply increased surgical risks.

Oct. 1, 2010- A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) found that lung cancer patients who received palliative care in addition to their usual aggressive management reported less depression, pain and other symptoms, compared with patients who received just aggressive care. What’s more, the study also showed that those who received palliative care actually lived longer, on average, and enjoyed a higher quality of life.

At Hallmark Health System, which includes Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, members of the Palliative Care Consultation Service seek to alleviate pain and discomfort to improve the quality of life of patients dealing with life-limiting, though not necessarily end-stage, illness.

Sept. 28, 2010- Hallmark Health System, which includes Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford and Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, is pleased to announce that the organization’s Community Services Department has been re-awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund.

Sept. 23, 2010- North Suburban Women, Infants and Children (WIC), a program of Hallmark Health System, has been awarded a MiniGrant of $6,000 from the Northwest Suburban Community Health Alliance for “Connecting and Caring, A Program for New Mothers.” The program will serve first-time mothers with babies under the age of 1, residing or working in Burlington, Wilmington, Winchester, Woburn and other local communities.
