Entertainment personality Maria Menounos served as the event’s honorary celebrity chairperson and shared her personal story about diabetes and how Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford played an important role in saving the life of a family member suffering from the disease.
Menounos, a Medford native, is a special correspondent for “Access Hollywood,” west coast contributor for “The Today Show,” correspondent on “NBC Nightly News” and is the Celebrity Ambassador for the American Diabetes Association.
Menounos was joined by radio and television personality Billy Costa, who served as master of ceremonies and auctioneer for the live auction. Costa can be seen on the popular show “TV Diner” and heard on the number one radio show in the region, “Matty in the Morning” on KISS 108.
Michael V. Sack, president and chief executive officer of Hallmark Health, presented Hallmark Health Hero Awards to Edward “Ted” Butler, MD, chief academic officer at Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford, for his leadership and support of Hallmark Health over the years; Deborah Cronin-Waelde, RN, OCN, program coordinator of the Hallmark Health Bone and Joint Program for her innovation and collaboration; and Menounos for her charity work and efforts to educate the public on diabetes care and treatment worldwide.
The Hallmark Health Hero Award, which will be presented each year at the Annual Gala and Auction, honors individuals who, through their work, values and dedication, share the mission and high standards of Hallmark Health System. Recipients of the award also demonstrate a commitment to the health and well being of the community, are leaders and advocates for members of the community in need of care or services, contribute to the success and growth of Hallmark Health through philanthropy as well as volunteerism and have helped build the foundation and establishment of Hallmark Health by providing high quality care or exceptional leadership.
