May 31, 2012 – The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Hallmark Health System has successfully completed a rigorous annual review conducted by a team from the Joslin Diabetes Center of Boston who assessed the overall quality and effectiveness of the program and the accomplishments of the past year.

The team examined criteria such as clinical excellence and continuous improvement in the delivery of clinical care and education, patient and referral satisfaction with the care provided, quality improvement and overall growth of the Center.  The Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at Hallmark Health System, which is located at Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford, scored “Excellent” under the Joslin scoring tool, which is the highest category.

Led by Sunita Schurgin, MD, Tara Hamilton, MD and Sybil Kramer, MD, the Center offers advanced clinical care for the treatment of diabetes for patients age 18 and older as well as patient education and support services. These services also include diabetes screening, comprehensive diabetes care and management, weight management, nutrition counseling and a wide variety of other endocrinology diagnoses. The Center is one of 40 national and two international Affiliate locations and the only Joslin Affiliate in Boston's northern suburbs.

A second Affiliate at Hallmark Health System will be opening at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital later this year.
